The Autoline fleet has been reduced from about 100 to 38 vessels in 10 years. New vessels are very efficient, but there are still some heavy and inconvenient work operations on board. This applies to load handling and replacement / correction of a hook. In order to increase profitability and for the vessels to appear as attractive workplaces, these work operations should be automated. In the development project Raw material logistics on board autoline vessels which is financed by FHF, IN and with its own efforts from the shipping company HP Holmeset AS and Optimar Giske AS, a concept for loading and unloading has been developed. The concept has now entered a construction phase and HP Holmeset AS will take a final position on implementation in a short time. The decision basis is results from the concept development, an investment analysis and conditions related to guarantees and financing of pilot plants. Streamlining of raw material logistics, together with other measures, can lead to savings on a position on board, or the position can be used to increase the quality of the raw material. Automation of cargo handling removes heavy and inconvenient work and the shipping company saves time and unloading costs. The solution can be easily transferred to the trawl fleet. HP Holmeset AS is a desired partner in the realization of the project because the loading / unloading system can be installed in a new autoline vessel that is under construction. The company has participated in a number of meetings since the end of March this year, and the technological development in the project has been interesting and motivating in terms of desire for realization. The crews on Geir have participated in discussions on board of the sketches sent to them, and they hope that the shipping company will benefit from installing the system. Goal: to design, install and test an appropriate solution for automated handling of pallets with raw materials in and out of cargo holds. The project is a realization of the concept study Raw Materials Logistics on board autoline vessels . The solution will be adapted to the newly built Geir (with delivery in the autumn of 2010). Sub-goals • to reduce heavy, inconvenient and dangerous work in the cargo hold • to reduce the need for staffing, possibly use available resources to increase the quality of the raw material and take care of by-products • to reduce the unloading time and save costs for unloading • to reduce the need for sorting after unloading in as much as possible • to reduce incorrect sorting • to reduce damage to the fish raw material
