The deltaic areas and marine littoral platforms play a determining role on various resources of great economic relevance, such as fishing, shellfish or tourism. QueMoMar is a scientific cooperation proposal to  study the influence of the waters coming from the Qued Moulouya River on the quality of the waters and the biogeochemical characteristics of the Moroccan coast, with the aim of knowing its environmental status and identifying critical points whose improvement may favor the sustainability of coastal activities and the economic development of the area (eg fisheries, shellfish and tourist activities). These scientific objectives complement the main objective of QueMoMar:  the transfer of technical knowledge to researchers and environmental managers in the Kingdom of Morocco. This cooperation will translate into the development of local capacity for the study and monitoring of two key aspects of the quality of coastal waters: the modeling of coastal currents and the analysis of trace elements in continental and marine waters. The research group, made up of researchers from six renowned institutions in Spain, Morocco and the USA, has the multidisciplinary approach necessary to tackle a study   that   includes aspects  chemical, physical and biological, both in waters and in continental and marine sediments. This proposal is presented as an opportunity to enhance coordination between the different work groups involved in the activity, and seeks to consolidate and maintain long-term collaboration between researchers from Spain and Morocco, in order to address future quality integrated studies of coastal and marine waters in the Western Mediterranean. 1. Transfer and exchange of knowledge for development: (1) Courses and seminars, (2) Practical training, (3) Co-supervision of doctoral theses. 2. Physico-chemical characterization of the surface mass of water and sediments of the Qued Moulouya River. 3. Physical-chemical characterization of the waters and surface mass sediments of the coastal zone.
