Start year 2002 End year 2004 Funding (€) € NA Website NA Summary The project aims to establish management models environment for the purpose of protecting the marine ecosystems of the Aeolian Islands. The study set out to: (1) know the conditions in which they operate fishermen Aeolian trying to highlight the critical factors that constrain their development; (2) Analyse the continuous depletion of fish stocks in the area and the consequent repercussions on fishing; (3) Identify real opportunities for growth in the surrounding area, through the integrated management of the coast and the business opportunities in the area; (4) Define a model that considering the present socio-economic situation, environmental constraints and resources, in order to assess the effectiveness of development paths identified.
Goals:(1) To characterize fishery and fishing activities together with their socio-economic aspects; (2) To provide baseline information on the Aeolian fishery to develop appropriate management measures; (3) To discuss the changes in this fishery as a consequence of the implementation of EC Regulation 1239/98 concerning the conversion of boats that used "spadara" driftnet targeting swordfish.
