"Recruit" studies recruitment of fishers to the fishing fleet with a focus on the importance of recruitment for value creation in Norwegian coastal communities. The research project shall study how internationalization of the labor market, competition from other industries, structural policies and the use of foreign labor have affected recruitment to the fishing fleet. Recruitment into the fisheries industry is primarily through social networks, family and local communities. However, fishers are becoming older, and fewer young fishers are recruited into the industry. The project will also study the use and effects of foreign labor in the fishing fleet and in the coastal communities.
