Based on the existence of long-term data series on the occurrence and abundance of both the commercial and non-commercial fish species, the institute is able to examine the risk potential of new technologies on fish communities in the German Territorial Waters and the Exclusive Economic Zone in the Baltic Sea. In this regard, it is necessary to assess the detailed impact of the planned construction on the lifecycles and the distribution of the fish species as well as on the affected fisheries. The scientific advices are demanded by the permission giving authorities (BSH, board of mines) and will be taken into account during the authorisation process.
