In recent years an increasing number of fishing vessels in the central and northern Adriatic, enable the exercise of trawling, have modified their fishing equipment moving from traditional to twins bottom otter trawl, whereby two twins nets are trawled together. In order to evaluate potentials and constraints of such new fishing technique, a comparative study with traditional bottom trawl fishery is necessary. The present study, commissioned by Italian Ministry of Fishery and Agriculture, aims at a preliminary assessment of performance, yield and efficiency of twin trawl fishery in comparison with traditional bottom trawl fishery.
