Resource management based on minimum targets and size-selective tools assumes that what is selected is viable. Otherwise, it is better to keep the catch of fry for industrial products. Sorting of prawns takes place primarily in the trawl bag where the catch is accumulated. Furthermore, sorting can take place at the fishing depth itself during trawling, on the way up while the trawl is being towed or on the surface while the trawl is being taken on board. The extent of sorting of small shrimps on the surface is believed to be significant and occur primarily when the bag is left to "wash" on the surface. Main objective: To gain knowledge about the selection of undersized shrimp and survival of sorted shrimp, both after sorting on the bottom and on the surface in different seasons. Sub-objectives: 1. To estimate the relative proportion of prawns that are sorted out at the sea surface for two alternative prawn sacks. 2. To map the shrimp's descent speed through the water bodies and the shrimp's tolerance for changes in temperature and salinity 3. To develop a methodology to estimate the survival of shrimp that are sorted out at the sea surface and on the bottom.
