In marine ecosystems, the surf zone is the stretch of sea where the hydrodynamic phenomena reach greater complexity. This zone is characterized by the transport and mixing of sediments primarily by the coastal currents and waves that make it a high-energy environment. On the other hand, the surf zone is the interface between land and sea from which it receives nutrients and detritus. The productivity that derives supports a large amount of organisms that are associated in biological communities peculiar to this zone and which are affected by all of the processes, both natural and anthropogenic, that in it are established. The main objective of the research project is the description of food webs in a surf zone sample. This study was developed through the analysis of the benthic community over time and in relation to the sedimentological characteristics of the area, the analysis of the fish community associated with the surf zone and the surrounding areas, the main trophic relationships, the role of environmental changes in terms of transfer of contaminants in the food chain. The surf zone sample was chosen in an area of particular environmental interest, fisheries and tourism. Goals: (1) To Study the surf-zone in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea by the analysis of trophic relationships between benthos and fish communities; (2) To describe the food webs in a surf zone sample.
