A new seawater cooling system (RSW) has been built on the fishing boat Ambassador. The refrigeration system has CO₂ as refrigerant and is equipped with a new type of evaporator and condenser. Instrumentation as well as measurements and analysis of the plant have been performed. Since the boat was at the quay in brackish water, the cooling water temperature was up to the maximum dimensioning and the freezing point for RSW was probably higher than normal. The measurements showed somewhat lower cooling performance than calculated. Large pressure loss between evaporator and compressor as well as low RSW speed in evaporator may be the explanation. After some small start-up problems, the plant seems to work well, according to the project group. After the measurements were made, the boat has been fishing for trout for mackerel and the facility should then have worked without problems. Feedback from shipowner (skipper) was positive.
