Summary Every object immersed in the sea of any material and size is, after a more or less long period of time, inexorably covered by a heterogeneous series of organisms (biofouling) which colonize it by settling permanently, causing phenomena of biodeterioration and biocorrosion capable of altering, even significantly, the effectiveness and efficiency of a wide range of marine equipment, structures and technologies. The most used methods for corrosion protection are based on two main effects: passive protection which consists in the separation of the metal surface from the aggressive environment through the use of a protective coating with barrier action (coatings and paints) and active protection which is the result of intrinsic chemical and electrochemical properties of the anticorrosive material used. Among the active protection systems, the ACG company will study the interaction of Chlorine (an active ingredient commonly used in chemical and/or electrochemical protection processes) with different systems of existing passive protection with particular interest in those of the latest generation without biocides (AF Biocide-Free) and xperimentally evaluate the chlorine concentration limit to avoid any negative interaction (disbonding of the coating). To achieve the objective, an experimental path will be created using the laboratories and the experimental marine station of the CNR-ISMAR in Genoa where all the experimental tests at the laboratory level and in field mesocosms will be carried out.
