The central goal of the research is to provide a basis for a sustainable management of the stocks of the European eel as requested by the European Commission. With regard to the drastic decline in glass eel recruitment during the last decades, the research aims to develop management strategies, which guarantee protection and recovery of the stock and simultaneously enable a rational exploitation of the species. The research includes biological aspects and the development and coordination of eel management plans at a national level as well approaches in the field of artificial reproduction and rearing of eel. Working Group: ICES Working Group on Eel (WGEEL).
