Aquaculture production of two Mediterranean fish species listed as endangered by IUCN, the dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) and red porgy (Pagrus pagrus). Releasing of hatchery-reared juveniles of both species on artificial reefs in the Gulf of Castellamare (South Tyrrhenian sea, Sicily). Before releasing, juveniles were genetically tagged and analysed for morphological abnormalities, physiological conditions and health and welfare status. Analysis of feeding behaviour of hatchery juveniles and training trials of larvae and juveniles on natural feed before restocking in the natural environment. Analysis of fitness of larvae and juveniles. Marcature of juveniles and evaluation of the effects of different type of tags on growth and survival. The success of restocking action has been assessed investigating: the number of resights and recapture after juveniles releasing, visual census and telemetry techniques.
