The available database comprises research projects in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Seafood Processing and Marine Biotechnology active in the time period 2003-2022.
BlueBio is an ERA-NET COFUND created to directly identify new and improve existing ways of bringing bio-based products and services to the market and find new ways of creating value from in the blue bioeconomy.

The project is oriented to complex analysis of fish strains and populations reared in Estonian fish farms with the aim to evaluate their genetic potential and safeguard survival and sustainable management of the genetic resources. This means also conservation of valuable native strains or populations. Molecular markers are used to reveal genetic structure of strains, populations, lineages of rainbow trout, common carp, Atlantic salmon and sea trout populations. The traits of imported strains which are important for aquaculture (growth rate, survival, quality, disease resistance) are evaluated in fish farms. The genetic processes occurring in artificial populations of salmonids and interaction between domesticated and wild stocks are analysed. The role of heritable strain specific traits and environmental factors will be estimated while losses of fish due to diseases occur. Long term project of selective breeding of strains of common carp and its ornamental variety, koi carp adapted to Estonian conditions will be continued. The experimental part of project will base on Estonian fish farms, the laboratory analyses will be made in well equipped genetic and parasitological laboratory of dept of aquaculture of Estonian University of Life Sciences.
