BlueBio is an ERA-NET COFUND created to directly identify new and improve existing ways of bringing bio-based products and services to the market and find new ways of creating value from in the blue bioeconomy.

Existing biogas technology allows fish sludge to act as a partial substrate, but this requires a large mix of additional substrates such as manure. With the enormous land-based salmon production planned, it would be unthinkable to bring in enough additional substrate in the required quantities.
