Summary In the project, processing technology will be developed for increased value creation from marine residual raw materials, with a focus on nutrients in fishbone. The basis for the project is many years of research and process development, carried out by Nofima. Fishbone represents a large and untapped resource for valuable nutrients and ingredients for fish and animal feed, and for products for direct human use. The project will contribute to a green shift, and to the need for sustainable ingredients, and meet the aquaculture industry's goal for reducing the environmental footprint by 2030. An important environmental aspect of the technology, is that it enables the recycling and recovering of phosphorus, which is a globally limiting resource. The project will help to achieve a number of the UN sustainability goals through efficient resource utilisation, recycling and recycling of nutrients, and to reduce the footprint at all levels of the production chain. The project will lay the foundation for the industrialization of new bioprocess technology, and for functional feed ingredients for fish farming and other food production.
