The goal of the project is to develop new genotyping kits for Atlantic cod based on microsatellite markers. Two sets of microsatellite markers will be developed. First of all a 10 marker set to use in the family selection programme and secondly a 20 marker set for characterizing the cod strains around Iceland (and in other sea areas). These microsatellite markers can also be used for tracing of origin and for tracing fish on fish markets. A well-functioning analytical kit of this kind is a commercial product as such and will therefore be protected by patent applications, if we are successful.
