Since the autumn of 2008, QVision, together with the clipfish and saltfish industry, has invested a lot of time and money in an installation for online measurement of water content in clipfish. After several rounds of technical improvements, the system is now ready for operational operation. As of today, there are no other alternative methods that can be used for rapid, industrial measurements of water content in clipfish and salted fish. However, there is a lack of interest in investing in such installations. The clipfish and saltfish industry wants a final evaluation of the system compared to laboratory measurements of water content. As of today, they do not feel confident that they can trust the results of the instrument. They also feel that the uncertainty in the measurements is too great. A system that can measure the water content of clipfish can be used to optimize the production process and thereby increase profitability. It will also be possible to achieve consistent and correct quality for the customer, which will be a competitive advantage which in turn will provide increased profitability. Reports from the system can be used as quality documentation for customers. The results from the project will have generic utility value for the entire clipfish industry. To evaluate the commercial potential of QVision's system for fast, online measurement of water content in clipfish. • To evaluate the uncertainty in the instrumental measurements. • To evaluate uncertainty in laboratory measurements, both Norwegian and Portuguese. • To investigate the possibility of reducing the uncertainty in instrumental measurements.
