Summary Killing of fish will in the future be the subject of further development of the implementation method. The regulations have changed and the changes will take effect in the near future. There is variation in the results of the killing processes due to human and technological weaknesses. With increasing demands for fulfilment of animal welfare considerations in society in general, the procedures must be improved. Stability and predictability in relation to product quality must also be improved to ensure the development of the industry.
The challenge is to automate an industry that is basically labor-intensive, with a raw material that has great biological variation in a humid and corrosive production environment. Handling and processing (internal logistics) of large volumes with low resource use is important in the further development of salmon production as competitive food production. Salmon as a raw material and product is a high-quality product with clearly defined quality requirements that must be met in production processes.
It is crucial in the treatment of live animals that the ethical considerations for optimal animal welfare are safeguarded. This also includes slaughtering / killing of salmon. The requirements set by the authorities, market participants and society in general for the welfare treatment of fish must be met.
Innovation in the processing industry takes place to a significant degree in the interaction between processing companies and equipment suppliers.
Kill line, activity areas and project delivery:
- Singulation and orientation of whole salmon for stunning
- Machine inspection for detection of bleeding points
- Manipulator for controlling bleaching tools
- Tool designControlled continuation of fish to soak
- Development and evaluation of a comprehensive prototype
During the development of solutions for the whole or for elements within the system, systematic PU methodology will be used.
The use of machine vision and robot technology for killing fish represents a significant degree of novelty.
Realization of developed solutions will give companies significantly strengthened market position.
