In markets for Norwegian clipfish, there is a growing interest in the durability of clipfish and documentation of stated durability. This is particularly pronounced in Brazil, where Norwegian clipfish compete with clipfish-like products from low-cost countries, and where the products are presented to the public without being chilled. This project description is the result of a dialogue between FHF, the Norwegian Seafood Council and Nofima. Both current and former representatives of the Seafood Council in Brazil have on various occasions expressed a desire to obtain fact-based information in order to be able to advise Brazilian grocery chains on shelf life labeling on clipfish from Norway. This is particularly relevant for the clipfish after it has arrived in Brazil and the clipfish is processed for sale to the public. Abras (Associação Brasileira de Supermercados) wants qualified advice on how to calculate the shelf life of clipfish sold from store shelves without refrigeration. To study the shelf life of clipfish under different storage conditions to arrive at a recommended shelf life.
