"The pelagic consumer industry is based on large volumes and small margins. The existence of the players depends on how they adapt to varying volumes, varying catch areas and a demanding market. New research and development can contribute to the actors being able to differentiate themselves and take a larger part of the margins in the value chain. Based on the fact that there are few companies in the pelagic consumer industry of which it is easy to make an economic profitability assessment in isolation, it is considered appropriate to establish a set of profitability indicators (KPIs - Key Performace Indicators). The pelagic consumer industry can be divided into the following activities: • Reception – freezing – sales – logistics • Reception – filleting – freezing – sales – logistics • Reception – filleting – marinating – sales – logistics • Residual raw material – processing – marine oils / flour – sales – logistics The species that are mainly involved are: NVG herring, Mackerel, Cape cod, Coal mullet. This preliminary project has included the following phases: 1) Analysis of the NOW situation in the pelagic consumer industry 2) Proposal for profitability indicators 3) Preparation of profitability indicators for the pelagic consumer industry Results showed that, in the first instance, emphasis should be placed on implementing the following indicators: logistics, by-product profit, fillet yield, gross margin"
