The project has looked at technology for automatic separation, identification and manipulation of selected residual substance fractions from NVG herring. The focus has been on good separation with a high degree of purity. An analysis has been carried out among selected players in the industry. It was a clear trend to want a survey to identify the basis for a market before looking further at new technological investments. Analysis methods and imaging using NIR technology are known methods that have been used previously in, among other things, the pelagic sector. The project has made use of these experiences, and investigated the techniques further. Among other things, it resulted that Jasere in the NIR spectrum provides a very good separation between roe and milk, but that more work remains to safely separate these from, for example, sloe and belly strip. Proposals for concepts for efficient fractionation have been prepared.
