The by-products from crab contain many valuable components that could become sought-after ingredients in feed, food and for use in agriculture. Processing of by-products could be a supplement to existing activities for those who process crab, and will also possibly. be able to utilize existing labor during periods of small catch. Another important aspect of increased utilization of by-products will be to reduce the problems of waste management. Shells from cages, claws and feet, together with internal chitin structures and remnants of meat, make up about 50% of the by-products, while liver and roe mass as well as other internal organs make up the remaining 50%. By utilizing the by-products, it will be possible to turn the problem of waste into a valuable product that can be sold. Goal: to obtain the necessary information that can form a basis for considering the commercial use of by-products from crab (Cancer pagurus) as an ingredient in cod feed.
