Based on the experience from the previous and ongoing projects, an on-board system for weighing pelagic fish will be developed in this project. Such a system on board vessels will, together with individual-based sorting at reception facilities, be able to maintain a good estimate of the weight distribution of the fish in the entire value chain. This will save both vessels and reception facilities for costly extra work and reduce lost revenue for both parties. The system will benefit both sea and land side. A preliminary project financed by FHF has been completed, and the steering group in the project wants a continuation. In the completed preliminary project, necessary components in an automated process were identified. The main project is planned to be completed in two phases. It has been chosen to do so in order to ensure a good basis for decision-making along the way, where the results in the first phase form the basis for the final definition of the last phase; construction of a comprehensive solution. The phase division is as follows: Phase 1: Technology development and lab-scale tests Phase 2. Upscaling of technology and tests of full-scale model. Goal: to develop a system for automatic sampling and weighing of pelagic fish on board pelagic fishing vessels. Sub-goals Phase 1 A. To develop immobilizer for herring and mackerel. B. To develop an infeed system (singulation and feeding) for identification unit before weighing herring and mackerel. C. To develop a system for identifying road fish, discards and return fish for the species herring and mackerel, as well as a system for sorting the alternatives. D. To define a system for weighing individual fish. E. To design a system for removing batches and returning fish to a silk box. F. To design a comprehensive solution for automatic weighing of individual fish (herring and mackerel) on board based on the above sub-concepts.
