Summary "Sustainability, environment, quality, and cost reduction are at the forefront of the fishing industry. With the innovation project, Polybait AS aims to develop an artificial bait suitable for the coastal fleet and longline fleet.
The bait should be cheaper and easier to use than the current bait, increase catch efficiency, improve catch selectivity, contribute to greater utilization of unused marine resources, and be biodegradable. By replacing imported raw materials for bait with local marine resources, the project will help reduce global transportation and therefore greenhouse gas emissions.
The longline fleet could improve its economy through reduced bait costs, improved catch efficiency and selectivity, and reduced handling costs.
The project entails an advantageous situation for the environment where by-products are used and transformed into new products.
In addition to Polybait AS, Borregaard AS, Akvaren AS, Steinfjordfisk AS participate in the project as partners. Research institutes Nofima AS and Sintef AS are involved as external research entities."
