Summary The project targets to develop the recirculating sturgeon aquaculture systems by integrating innovative aquaponics methods for water quality control, based on the use of residual materials provided by the food industry, as well as on intelligent visual recognition and IoT techniques, in order to improve fish and plants rearing technologies meant to maximize the profitability and sustainability of sturgeons aquaculture economic activity. The objectives of this project are meant to improve, from the technical point of view, the design of a sturgeon recirculating systems by integrating new multi-trophic techniques, as well as image recognition modules for estimating, in real time, the biomass of both fish and plants reared and for transferring the information in cloud platforms. The application of technical solutions described above will generate new improved technologies for fish and plants production in recirculating multi-trophic sturgeons aquaculture systems, developed with the purpose to maximize the profitability and sustainability of this industry and therefore, to contribute to the development of biotechnology smart specialization sector. The improvement of profitability and sustainability potential of sturgeon aquaculture by applying the smart techniques previous mentioned explains the contribution of this project proposal to the connection process of technological progress from Romania to the demands of the national and international socio-economic environment. By centralizing the technologies obtained into a software application, developed in present project proposal, sharing and selling the technologies at national and international level will be facilitated, fact that will encourage the farmer in its future research actions.
