Summary The shallow waters of the German Bight and Wadden Sea serve as nursery grounds for several commercially important fish species, which have shown critical stock reductions in recent years and turned to be limited resources by now. Annual abundance and growth assessments of the young fish allow for a first indication of the level of incoming catches in future years. They may also serve for in time protection measures as "real time closures", effort or bycatch reductions and TAC (= Total Allowable Catch) recommendations, which are passed on to the relevant ICES groups and via the responsible ministry (BMELV) to the EU in order of supporting the Common Fishery Policy (CFP) and its aim of sustainability of stocks and fisheries. Working groups: ICES WG on Beam Trawl Surveys, ICES WG on Crangon Fisheries and Life Cycle, TMAP session of experts. Research cruises: annually 1 cruise FRV Solea (January) and 1 cruise (charter) in winter and 5 cruises (charter) in autumn; GASEEZ.
Goal:
Data collection on species diversity and especially assessment of commercial 0-group fish abundance indices (plaice, sole, cod, whiting), brown shrimp abundance.
