Under special conditions, the line and net fleet have problems finding the fishing gear as standing in the sea. Visibility and current conditions will be crucial for the time spent looking for the buoys. Darkness and snow in combination with wind can significantly reduce visibility, and cause that it becomes very difficult to find the buoys. It will therefore be an advantage for the fishing fleet to have an aid that reduces search time and loss of fishing gear. The project started after a request from the autoline fleet to Møreforsking; whether it existed or whether it could be developed such tracking equipment. The main goal of the project is to develop a tracking tool that can be used by the fishing fleet to find passive gear standing in the sea. In this part of the project it should existing and possible technology is uncovered as well as examining the requirements of the fishing industry to an aid. In a continuation, manufacturers must be selected and the product constructed and tested.
