The project has developed new information and decision support systems that contribute to the safe maritime transport of fairways. The main elements of the project was to make dynamic information available to users both on land and aboard. The information is available in Web-based, standardized maps and includes forecasts for sailing conditions, status of navigational aids and operational conditions. It is demonstrated how this information can be put together and made available in real time to decision makers for use in the planning and implementation of a voyage and during search and rescue operations. The development was done in close cooperation with users through a series of user meetings along the coast, and by close cooperation between governmental, industry and research partners. The main target: Increase the safety in fairways by developing decision support system that can predict critical situations. Vision. The final solution in order to prevent accidents will be to predict what will happen early enough so accidents can be avoided. R & D challenges: Predicting hazards Accessibility of data on board User interface Quality assurance of positioning Compliance to regulations.
