Water content in cuttlefish is an important parameter that defines the quality of cuttlefish for export. There has previously been a need for a fast and non-destructive method for measuring the water content of cuttlefish since this can be used for process control during drying, quality sorting and for checking the water content during export. This project follows up development work that was carried out in the period 2005 – 2010. Development of fast and non-destructive measurement methods for food quality is strategically important for Nofima. Main objective: To develop and test a hand-held instrument for measuring water content in cuttlefish. Sub-goals: 1) To evaluate and compare different technology alternatives for measuring water content in cuttlefish. 2) To further develop and calibrate the most suitable method. 3) To verify use and accuracy under industrial conditions.
