The project was based on existing production facilities and the new measures were verified through industrial experiments. 20 facilities were mapped and evaluated. The facilities were divided into 4 categories where solutions for efficient operation were made visible for each category. In addition to individual measures that increase efficiency, emphasis was placed on utilizing adjacent storage to reduce the load on the drying systems. By draining salted fish, intermediate storage of slack fish, and final-drying fish in storage outside the droughts, up to a doubling of capacity and a corresponding reduction in energy consumption per tonne of clipfish produced has been made visible. Furthermore, the effect of fresh versus frozen raw material was evaluated, in addition to the effect of hard initial drying. Goal: to recommend a rational production of clipfish of consistent quality for increased production, streamlining of work and reduced operating and energy costs. Sub-goals • To document in measurements of several types of existing drying plants the effect of traditionally used operating routines. • To make visible and document increased production by streamlining the unit operations. • To optimize existing drying plants and operating routines. • To make energy consumption visible through various types of facilities and provide recommendations in relation to measures to make energy use more efficient.
