Studies within the present project on shi drum, a candidate new species for aquaculture, started in 2007. Broodstock fish were provided from a private farm in Bodrum, Mula, which captured from "Güllük Bay" and end of the adaptation period. First spawning occurred naturally at 25,3 ºC in May, 2008 whereas last spawning took place at 27,3 ºC in June, 2008. Requirements of culture conditions during larval period were investigated by several experiments. In the Project, some nutritional and rearing experiments were also conducted during juvenile stage of shi drum. When all studies conducted within the project were considered together, it has been concluded that shi drum is a fast growing fish species and thereby hold a great potential for commercially profitable aquaculture. On the other hand, much more number of studies should be conducted in the species, therefore, presently reported studies can be evaluated only as “basic investigations”.
