One of the main objectives was to carry out a study on the distribution of toxic algae in water and of biotoxins in fish products of the national territory in order to investigate the characteristics, production, actions and toxicity of the algal toxins with the greatest impact on human health and on the Another important goal of the project was to develop and standardize innovative methods, alternative to the biological method (mouse test) for the research and determination of algal biotoxins in bivalve molluscs. In this regard, qualitative and quantitative analytical methods have been developed and applied, such as instrumental chemical methods (HPLC, LC-MS), immunoenzymatic methods, functional tests such as phosphatase inhibition and cytotoxicity tests.
