Environmental parameters are of special importance for the state and development of Baltic fish stocks, along with the impact of the fishery or certain species in particular areas of the Baltic Sea. The Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries (OSF) is recording these abiotic and biotic parameters to analyse and predict the influence of these on the fish fauna. Examples are the variability of hydrographic conditions, with an immediate impact on the spawning success of cod, and the occurrence of new species like the invader Mnemiopsis leidyi, a ctenophore or the black gobi, which are dangerous for early life stages of some Baltic fish species.
