Due to the existence of long-term data series to assess the impact of fisheries on the marine ecosystem and to describe the occurrence and abundance of the commercially as well as the non-commercially used fish species the Institute of Sea Fisheries (SF) is also in the position to assess the endangering potential of new kinds of utilisation on the fish communities within the German EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) in the North Sea. For this it is necessary to know the details of the planned interferences and analyse the possible impact on the lifecycles and the distribution of the fish and on the specific fisheries. The results can also be used to apply the most environmental friendly technologies considering the needs of the fishermen as a low organised group of interest. The scientific certificates are demanded by the permission giving authorities (BSH, board of mines) and will be taken into account during the granting process.
