4F - Fine Feed For Fish is a three-year research project to feed sea bass, sea bream and rainbow trout, the three most important and widespread fish species reared in Italy, with new feeds. For sea bass and rainbow trout, new diets will be tested based on vegetable flours, obtained from insects and by-products of poultry slaughter, with the addition of protein and calorie supplements. Thanks to advanced investigation techniques, the researchers will evaluate the impact that the new feeds have on the digestive processes of fish. The adaptation in our products from a new genetically selected trout strain from the United States will be studied and part of the results obtained from the project will also be extended to sea bream. The aim of the research is to find alternative protein sources to fish meal and oils able to guarantee the optimal growth of farmed fish, a fish with a high nutritional value and respectful of the food safety and requirements that the quality consumer requires.
