There is now growing awareness that the microbiome of aquacultures should be a priority in the technological development and sustainable expansion of the sector. However, the lack of knowledge about the effect of different strategies on modulating the water microbiome on fish pathogens and host-microbe interactions is an obstacle to developing a sustainable alternative to control aquaculture diseases. In this project, we intend to apply the concept of microbiome modulation, based on the use of prebiotics and probiotics for the development of innovative strategies that allow the modulation of the water microbiota and suppression of diseases in intensive aquacultures with a recirculation system (RAS).
