Marine biofouling is a global problem with enormous economic and environmental impact. This project aims to evaluate and anticipate the behavior and toxicity of an innovative nanoadditive to prevent this phenomenon, from the Portuguese company Smallmatek, Lda., dedicated to the development of high-performance solutions to combat corrosion and biofouling. Thus, we intend to evaluate and compare the fate and behavior of nanoadditives in the marine environment (Task 1), and the effects of exposure (Task 2), bioaccumulation and biomagnification (Task 3) along the marine trophic chain, in organisms in temperate and tropical waters. The most relevant data will be disseminated at conferences and in indexed journals. The project is expected to allow: a) strengthening institutional relationships between institutions; b) promote the exchange and qualification of young researchers; c) encourage good industrial practices and sustainable growth; and d) respond to current societal challenges.
